The X-band e.s.r, spectrum of a copper(II) Schiff-base complex, 2,2?- [ethylenebis(nitrilomethylidyne)]-bis(benzenethiolato-S,N)copper(II) (Cu(mben)), has been determined in frozen toluene-chloroform solutions. The complicated line shape has been simulated by a computer program incorporating symmetry around the copper lower than axial, together with a nitrogen hyperfine pattern calculated for two cis nitrogen atoms. The e.s.r parameters are compared with those obtained for two other thio Schiff-base chelates and with those for the salicylaldimine analogue, Cu(salen). Metal-ligand covalency parameters estimated from the e.s.r. parameters are discussed briefly.

The Electron Spin Resonance study of 1,3,5,8-tetrahydroxy 2,7-dimethyl anthraquinone known as Nodosin has been carried out at room temperature and at X-band. The compound gives a norrow ESR line. The measurements of lineshape, linewidth and g-value have been made. A theoretical computation of dipolar width as well as narrowing due to exchange has been carried out with the help of KUBO and TOMITA theory and finally a value for J, the exchange coupling parameter has been estimated. On the basis of these measurements Nodosin has been proposed to adopt an intermediate structure.
