The problem of how programming style (a set to use one approach) influences programmer performance and productivity is addressed by applying the findings of a basic laboratory study of sequence extrapolation. The study suggests increased efficacy on complicated programming problems might be obtained through a structured style, but at the cost of increased time spent on simpler problems.
