The fabrication process for the designed MEMS resonator using surface-micromachined technology is presented in this paper. A 10-MHz Free-Free beam MEMS resonator is designed to vibrate in the second-mode shape, which is significant improvement compare to the fundamental mode. The design showed a Q value as high as 75,000, which is significant improvement compared to 8,400 VHF F-F beam MEMS resonator by K. Wang; and very low motional resistance (18kΩ). The surface-micromachined technology is used as the standard process for the design. The process is briefly described from the layout design to the experimental fabricated device.

Digital records of seismic waves observed at Seismic Research Observatory, Cheng Mai. Thailand have been analysed for two earthquakes in western Nepal. Digital data are processed by the floating filter and phase equalization methods to obtain surface waves free from noise. Group velocities of Love and Rayleigh waves are obtained by frequency time analysis of these noise free surface waves. The period of group velocities ranges from 17 to 62 sec for fundamental mode Rayleigh waves and from 17 to 66 sec for fundamental mode Love waves. The wave paths cross both central Myanmar (Burma) and the Indo-Gangetic plain. The group velocity data of surface waves across central Myanmar (Burma) have been obtained after correction of the data for the path across the Indo-Gangetic plain. Inversion of data gives the average crustal and subcrustal structure of central Myanmar (Burma). The modelled structure shows two separate sedimentary layers each of  8 km thick, The lower sedimentary layer forms the low velocity zone of the crust. The total thickness of central Myanmar (Burma) crust is found to be 55 km

A new class of localized solutions of paraxial parabolic equation is introduced. Each solution is a product of some Gaussian-type localized axisymmetric function (different from the fundamental mode) and an amplitude factor. The latter can be expressed via an arbitrary solution of the Helmholtz equation on an auxiliary two-sheet complex surface. The class under consideration contains well known and novel solutions, including those describing optical vortices of various orders.

Abstract We have performed a frequency analysis of 10,092 δ Scuti-type stars detected in the fourth phase of the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) towards the Galactic bulge, which is the most numerous homogeneous sample of δ Scuti stars observed so far. The main goal was to search for stars pulsating in at least two radial modes simultaneously. We have found 3083 candidates for such stars, which is the largest set obtained to date. Among them, 2655 stars pulsate in two radial modes, 414 stars pulsate in three radial modes, and 14 stars pulsate in four radial modes at the same time. We report the identification of 221 δ Scuti stars pulsating in the fundamental mode, first overtone, and third overtone simultaneously. We show the most populated Petersen and Bailey diagrams and discuss statistical properties of the identified frequencies based on this numerous sample. Additionally, we present theoretical predictions of period ratios for δ Scuti stars pulsating in overtones from the fourth to the seventh.

The combination of mode division multiplexing (MDM) based on orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes with wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) has attracted considerable attention due to its ability to increase optical transmission capacity. However, the switching of the multi-wavelength and multi-order OAM mode in an all-fiber structure has always been a challenge. As a solution, a thermally tunable dual-core photonic crystal fiber (DC-PCF) is proposed to achieve multi-order and multi-wavelength switching of the OAM mode. The results show that the OAM mode with topological charge m = ±1 can be excited with the linear polarization fundamental mode (LPFM) and circular polarization fundamental mode (CPFM). In addition, the device can effectively excite a high-purity ±1st order OAM mode with wavelengths ranging from 1520 to 1575 nm by thermal tuning. The purity of the mode is in excess of 99%, and the energy conversion efficiency (ECE) is above 95%. The proposed design is expected to be applied in all-fiber communication systems combined with MDM and WDM.

Abstract In this paper we have studied influence of attenuation on conversion processes of the fundamental mode (FM) in multihelicoidal optical fibers (MHF) in the vicinity of the point of accidental spectrum degeneracy within the framework of the scalar approximation. To this end, we have obtained expressions for modes of the MHF, which consist of the FM and an optical vortex (OV), and shown that conversion of the FM into the OV takes place. The difference in the attenuation coefficients for the partial fields of MHF’s modes leads to deterioration in the conversion process even with an ideal system’s tuning. At sufficiently large values of attenuation coefficients the conversion of the incoming FM into the vortex vanishes. Also we have shown the presence of exceptional point (EP) in the spectra of modes of the MHF and demonstrated enhanced sensitivity of the fiber in the vicinity of the EP to perturbations.
