Abstract Surface wear is one of the major causes of damage to wire ropes in multi-layer winding systems. This damage leads to performance degradation and affects the service safety of wire rope. To reveal the wear evolution and the performance degradation of wire rope in service, the correlations between the wear characteristic parameters and the residual strength were investigated. The results show that the variation in the wear parameters is affected by the wear distribution and the structure of the wire rope. The main wear mechanisms between wire ropes are adhesion wear and abrasive wear. Different wear parameters should be combined to evaluate the wear state of the wire rope. The tensile temperature rise could accurately reflect the wear evolution of the in-service wire rope under the condition of a large wear degree. The negative correlation between the residual strength and the wear area of the damaged rope samples is the strongest.

Purpose: To describe a novel bailout technique to approach below-the-knee chronic total occlusions after a failed bidirectional recanalization attempt using the plantar loop maneuver in patients who are poor candidates for a retrograde puncture. Technique: After a failure of recanalization of the opposite tibial artery using the plantar loop maneuver, an assisted direct retrograde transpedal approach can be performed regardless of poor vessel caliber or even arterial occlusion. After crossing the plantar arch, a low profile angioplasty balloon is used as a landmark for the pedal puncture and to give guidance for the wire advancement from the new access. Conclusion: A balloon-assisted retrograde transpedal approach may be considered for below-the-knee recanalization after standard plantar loop technique failure in patients who are not candidates for conventional retrograde puncture.

Abstract The wire bow angle is an important factor that affects the shape precision of an ingot after the diamond wire sawing process. In this research, the wire bow angles of the inside and outside of an ingot were recorded with a high-speed camera. The effects of the processing parameters such as the wire tension force, feed speed, and wire speed on the wire bow angles inside and outside the ingot were analyzed. A numerical simulation model of the wire bow in the wire sawing process is presented in this paper to describe the wire bow angle inside the ingot. It was shown that the wire bow angle inside the ingot was smaller than that of outside the ingot for all of the processing parameters. The wire bow angles improved with the increase of the feed speed and decrease of the wire speed and the wire tension force. The results of the wire bow angle measurement of the inside ingot and the simulation calculation were similar for the process parameters.

The study of the duration of mechanical resistance to static tensile stress (withstand time) for an aluminum wire that being suffers from the corrosion effect stimulated by stray currents at different temperatures. Test device was designed and produced locally "in advance" in accordance with the specification (ASTM G103 - 97) to create static tensile stress of (1 N) on an aluminum wire of type ASTM (B231/B231M) with particular dimensions and utilized in the transmission of electrical energy, and when the wire is surrounded by a corrosive environment (NaCl solution) (3.5 % NaCl) at three different temperatures (25, 50, and 75 ° C) without any external electrical current causing corrosion; this symbolizes stray currents. Then compare the findings of that example to the results of the same wire's withstand time in the presence of an external electrical current generated by corrosion of type (D.C) by (5V & 3A). Following that, the resulting diagrams were analyzed, and it was discovered that the wire resistivity time (without the existence of stray currents and at a temperature of 25 ° C) completed (17 days), which is the longest duration of endure, and the lowest time of resistivity or resistance period (in the existence of an external electric current) is (18 hr.).Impact of (stray currents) at (75 ° C), and this is an indicator of the stray currents with corrosive environment temperatures on the resistance period (withstand duration) in the existence of static stress. The total stimulation increase is 1.9% between corrosion at 75°C and 25°C.

Abstract The article elaborates the significance of the cutting feature in different ways, the shape structure and modeling approach of cutting feature are analyzed through examples. The modeling method is summarized: 1) According to the projection relation, the wire frame is separated. According to the projection of view, the positional relation of each plane is analysed, the corresponding plane of the wireframe is determined the shape of the cut is clarified. This is the key to deciding whether the modeling can be completed successfully. 2) By imagining the shape, the position and order are determined. By line-plane analysis and dimensioning, the cutting position and order of the surface are determined, and the shape and structure after cutting are clarified. This is an important basis for rapid modelling. 3)Thinking overall. Repeatedly compare the shape with the views, and comprehensively check to ensure that the feature position of the shape is clear, the shape is accurate, and the structure is complete.

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this proof-of-concept study was to demonstrate the setup and feasibility of transcarotid access for remote robotic neurointerventions in a cadaveric model. METHODS The interventional procedures were performed in a fresh-frozen cadaveric model using an endovascular robotic system and a robotic angiography imaging system. A prototype remote, robotic-drive system with an ethernet-based network connectivity and audio-video communication system was used to drive the robotic system remotely. After surgical exposure of the common carotid artery in a cadaveric model, an 8-Fr arterial was inserted and anchored. A telescopic guiding sheath and catheter/microcatheter combination was modified to account for the “workable” length with the CorPath GRX robotic system using transcarotid access. RESULTS To simulate a carotid stenting procedure, a 0.014-inch wire was advanced robotically to the extracranial internal carotid artery. After confirming the wire position and anatomy by angiography, a self-expandable rapid exchange nitinol stent was loaded into the robotic cassette, advanced, and then deployed robotically across the carotid bifurcation. To simulate an endovascular stroke recanalization procedure, a 0.014-inch wire was advanced into the proximal middle cerebral artery with robotic assistance. A modified 2.95-Fr delivery microcatheter (Velocity, Penumbra Inc.) was loaded into the robotic cassette and positioned. After robotic retraction of the wire, it was switched manually to a mechanical thrombectomy device (Solitaire X, Medtronic). The stentriever was then advanced robotically into the end of the microcatheter. After robotic unfolding and short microcatheter retraction, the microcatheter was manually removed and the stent retriever was extracted using robotic assistance. During intravascular navigation, the device position was guided by 2D angiography and confirmed by 3D cone-beam CT angiography. CONCLUSIONS In this proof-of-concept cadaver study, the authors demonstrated the setup and technical feasibility of transcarotid access for remote robot-assisted neurointerventions such as carotid artery stenting and mechanical thrombectomy. Using transcarotid access, catheter length modifications were necessary to achieve “working length” compatibility with the current-generation CorPath GRX robotic system. While further improvements in dedicated robotic solutions for neurointerventions and next-generation thrombectomy devices are necessary, the transcarotid approach provides a direct, relatively rapid access route to the brain for delivering remote stroke treatment.

ABSTRACT: This paper reports the analyses carried out with the company Pedrini SpA ad unico socio, located in Carobbio degli Angeli, Bergamo (IT). Wire ropes with diamond beads, used as cutting tools in multi-wire machines for cutting blocks of stone, were considered and a failure analysis of the wire ropes was carried out. The aim of the paper is to highlight the damage mechanisms of the wire ropes to increase service life of these cutting tools. Microscope observations and the penetrating liquids method were used to analyze the damaged wire ropes. Fatigue, corrosion and contact fatigue problems were observed and the effect of the centering of the beads on the wire rope was studied.

Abstract: the paper considers the creative restoration of an early Christian basilica in Siponto, Apulia, realized by Italian artist Edoardo Tresoldi. Tresoldi resorts to the wire mesh as an artistic material: the restored basilica thus results in a monumental but evanescent building. After an introduction describing the public artwork, the paper will unfold in two main sections. In the first one, the focus will be on the concept of genius loci as a distinctive character of Tresoldi’s poetics. Through an Heideggerian lens, the stress will be put on the existential value of dwelling, which is highlighted by the restored church. The second section will focus on the ghostly and uncanny (unheimlich) appearance of the basilica. Thanks to authors such as Derrida and Didi-Huberman, it will be shown that a genius deloci is at work in the site as well, calling into question the different temporalities that animate the basilica. Genius loci and genius deloci will prove as a conceptual couple capable of providing us with an access to the artwork; nevertheless, they will not be understood as a dichotomy, i.e. as mutually exclusive concepts, but as opposite notions that “haunt” each other and that cannot but be used together, in the postmodernist fashion of double-coding.
