The concept of concerted and synergistic feedback inhibition of the regulatory enzyme of a branched biosynthetic pathway is critically discussed on the basis of data obtained with the threonine-lysine-sensitive asparto- kinase of Rhodospirillum rubrum. It is proposed that only one name (concerted feedback) should be used to specify allosteric feedback inhibitions where at least two end- products of the branched pathway are required for complete inhibition of the regulatory enzyme.
