All too often, we hear people complain that they are treated only as a number. This article shows how numerical anonymity can be turned to advantage in the mathematics classroom by using a student's Social Security number to produce a variety of individualized problems to investigate using computers or sophisticated graphing calculators. These problems, in turn, help students develop a deeper understanding of the associated mathematical concepts.
