In the title compound, C32H32N2, synthesized by the condensation reaction of 2-ethyl-4-phenylaniline and 2,3-butanedione, the conformation about the C=N bonds isEand the substituted biphenyl units aretransto one another. In the two biphenyl ring systems, the planes of the two rings are inclined to one another by 25.25 (19) and 28.01 (19)°. The planes of the ethyl-substituted benzene rings are inclined to one another by 20.23 (19)° and to the mean plane of the butane-2,3-diimine unit [maximum deviation = 0.014 (4) Å] by 83.19 (19) and 63.38 (19)°. In the crystal, molecules are linked by C—H...π interactions, forming sheets lying parallel to (101).

In the title compound, C27H21FN2O4, the mean planes of the indole ring systems (r.m.s. deviations = 0.0263 and 0.0160 Å) are approximately perpendicular to one another, making a dihedral angle of 84.0 (5)°; the fluorobenzene ring is twisted with respect to the mean planes of the two indole ring systems at 89.5 (5) and 84.6 (3)°. In the crystal, pairs of N—H...O hydrogen bonds link the molecules into inversion dimers, which are further linked by N—H...O hydrogen bonds into supramolecular chains propagated along theb-axis direction. Weak C—H...π interactions are observed between neighbouring chains.

The title compound, C29H24N2OS, contains a phenothiazine moiety linked to a planar carbazole unit (r.m.s. deviation = 0.029 Å) by a C—C single bond. The phenothiazine moiety possesses a typical non-planar butterfly structure with a fold angle of 27.36 (9)° between the two benzene rings. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the carbazole and phenothiazine units is 27.28 (5)°. In the crystal, molecules stack in pairs along thec-axis direction, linked by offset π–π interactions [intercentroid distance = 3.797 (1) Å]. There are C—H...π interactions present linking these dimers to form a three-dimensional structure.

The title compound, C34H37N, is a pyrene derivative in which the pyrene ring system is linked to an ethylcyclohexane unit which, in turn, carries a [4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]ethyl substituent in theparaposition. The central cyclohexane ring has a chair conformation, with the exocyclic C—C bonds in equatorial orientations. The benzene ring is inclined to the mean plane of the pyrene ring system [maximum deviation = 0.038 (4) Å] by 14.84 (15)°. In the crystal, molecules are linked by C—H...π interactions, forming chains propagating along [010]. The crystal was refined as a non-merohedral twin [domain ratio = 0.9989 (4):0.0011 (4)].

The title compound, C21H14N2O2, was prepared by Pictet–Spengler cyclization of tryptamine and 4-formyl coumarin. In the molecule, the dihedral angle between the mean planes of the coumarin and β-carboline ring systems is 63.8 (2)°. In the crystal, molecules are linkedviaN—H...N hydrogen bonds, forming chains along theb-axis direction. Within the chains, there are a number of offset π–π interactions present [shortest intercentroid distance = 3.457 (2) Å].

In the crystal structure of the title compound, C21H15BrNO2 +·CF3SO3 −, adjacent cations are linked through C—Br...π and π–π contacts [centroid–centroid distance = 3.744 (2) Å], and neighbouring cations and anions via C—H...O, C—F...π and S—O...π interactions. The acridine and benzene ring systems are oriented at a dihedral angle of 18.7 (1)°. The carboxy group is twisted at an angle of 69.3 (1)° relative to the acridine skeleton. The mean planes of adjacent acridine moieties are either parallel or inclined at an angle of 27.8 (1)° in the lattice.

In the title compound, C19H13BrO3S, the 4-bromophenyl ring makes a dihedral angle of 64.11 (2)° with the mean plane [r.m.s. deviation = 0.01 (2) Å] of the naphthofuran ring. In the crystal, molecules are linked by weak C—H...O and C—H...π interactions. In the title compound, C21H24O3, the conformation of the enone group iss–cis. The benzene rings are inclined at an angle of 7.9 (1)°. The alkoxy tail is planar, with a maximum deviation from the least-squares plane of 0.009 (2) Å, and adopts atransconformation throughout. An intramolecular O—H...O interaction between the keto and hydroxy groups formsS(6) ring motifs. In the crystal, molecules are arranged in a head-to-tail manner down theaaxis and are subsequently stacked along thebaxis, forming molecular sheets parallel to theabplane.
