Este artigo objetiva apresentar uma breve abordagem teórica sobre a Sociolinguística, procurando avaliar a variação existente na língua em uma região rural. A meta é conduzir uma apresentação sintética e teórica desta avaliação dentro da sociolinguística, levando-se em consideração alguns fatores como idade, sexo, ocupação, origem de alguns adolescentes residentes em áreas interioranas, que frequentam uma escola rural situada em Poços de Caldas, Minas Gerais. Trata-se assim, de identificar as variações linguísticas que surgem com esses falantes, apontando sua identidade. A forma escrita será estudada considerando-se uma concisa coleta desses falantes num pequeno corpus para se pesquisar o dialeto caipira.  Abstract: This article presents a brief theoretical approach to sociolinguistics, trying to evaluate the variation in the language in a rural area. This is aimed at leading to a synthetic and theoretical presentation of this evaluation within the sociolinguistics, taking into account factors such as age, sex, occupation, origin from some adolescents living in inland areas and attending a rural school, which is located in Poços de Caldas, Minas Gerais State. It is thus, to identify the linguistic variations that come with these speakers, indicating their identity. The writing will be studied considering a brief collection of these speakers in a small corpus, in order to have an investigation of the rustic dialect.

Since it was trapped in the XIX th century, Rhagomys rufescens has been considered a rare endangered sigmodontine rodent and an endemic species of the Atlantic forest. Only a handful of vouchers of this taxon were known by Thomas, 1886. Recently, eight new individuals were collected, providing new geographical, morphological and phylogenetic (based on molecular evidence) information on this species. In the present work we report the southernmost occurrence record for R. rufescens at Indaial, Santa Catarina State, with the largest collected series of this species, the northernmost occurrence record at Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo State, and new records from Poços de Caldas, Minas Gerais State, from Ibiúna and Ribeirão Grande, São Paulo State.

Studies on mammal diversity provide the essential groundwork for the development of conservation methods and practices. The region of the Poços de Caldas Plateau is lacks such studies, which may be a problem for future conservation actions. Here, we analyze the richness of medium-sized and large mammals from Atlantic Forest remnants on the Poços de Caldas Plateau, Minas Gerais state. Diurnal censuses of direct observations and mammal signs were conducted, and we documented 20 species of mammals belonging to eight orders. Three species of primates, one carnivore, one cingulate, one lagomorpha, three rodents, one artiodactyla, and two marsupials were found. The largest forest remnant that presented the greatest richness is currently a conservation unit. Forest remnants are important for the consolidation of management strategies and have fundamental role for the conservation of mammal diversity in the south of Minas Gerais state.

Groundwater and surface water samples were collected at Morro do Ferro, a thorium and rare earth deposit located on the Poços de Caldas Plateau, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, to evaluate if the mechanisms related to the migration of 238U and 234U isotopes can generate concentrations greater than the grossalpha activity contaminant limit. The 238U content range was 0.003-0.24 pCi/l and the 234U content range was 0.004-0.25 pCi/l, showing that the studied hydrologie environment doesn't indicate pollution by radioactivity due to these nuclides. However, 226Ra and 228Ra isotopes can be considered as radioactive pollutants in groundwaters but not in surface waters of the Morro do Ferro.

Estudos sobre mudanças nas propriedades do solo decorrentes das atividades de mineração são importantes para a compreensão e desenvolvimento de novas formas de manejo do solo e recuperação de áreas degradadas. Este trabalho visou determinar as possíveis alterações nos teores de matéria orgânica e nos índices de agregação do solo geradas pela mineração de bauxita em Poços de Caldas, Minas Gerais. Aplicou-se delineamento experimental com três blocos casualizados, dois tratamentos (antes da intervenção minerária e depois da recuperação ambiental) e quatro repetições. Foram determinados os teores de matéria orgânica e calculados os valores de diâmetro médio ponderado (DMP), o diâmetro médio geométrico (DMG), macro e microagregados a partir da porcentagem de solo retida em cada peneira no tamisamento dos agregados. Houve redução da estabilidade de agregados em água após a intervenção minerária, indicando que tais atividades geram impactos negativos sobre sua estrutura física. Os altos valores de DMP e DMG podem ser atribuídos ao material de origem dos solos da região. Não foram verificadas diferenças significativas para os teores de matéria orgânica nas camadas avaliadas antes da mineração e depois da recuperação, indicando que os processos de recuperação da área minerada propiciaram manutenção dos teores de matéria orgânica do solo.
