The genus Trimma contains 17 nominal and 13 valid species. Five of these are here reported from the Chagos Archipelago: T. eviotops, T. macrophthalma, T. mendelssohni. T. nauclei, and T. taylori. An additional 7 species arc described as new and another is described but not named, for a total of 13 species known from these islands. The biogeographic affinities of Chagos species of Trimma appear to lie with the western Indian Ocean rather than the western Pacific, but the evidence is weak because of the lack of knowledge of the Pacific Trimma fauna.

A new genus and two new species of congrid eels, subfamily Bathymyrinae, are described from the western Indian Ocean and the western Pacific. Kenyaconger gen. nov. differs from all other congrids in having a tubular posterior nostril, opening on the edge of the upper lip behind the labial flange. Kenyaconger heemstrai sp. nov., the only species in the genus, is described from a single specimen collected off the coast of Kenya in the western Indian Ocean. Chiloconger philippinensis sp. nov. is described from the Philippines, the first record of the genus outside the eastern Pacific. It differs from Chiloconger dentatus (Garman, 1899) in several meristic and morphometric characters. Chiloconger dentatus is redescribed from additional material and its osteology is described for the first time. Chiloconger similis Wade, 1946 is reassigned to Paraconger Kanazawa.

Recent collections of tanaidaceans from intertidal macroalgae on the shores of the Andaman Islands have revealed both new taxa to science and new material of a species which had previously been inadequately described. The present paper gives a redescription of the leptocheliid Konarus crassicornis, discussing its close similarity to the generotype, K. cheirus, and describes two new species, one of the tanaid genus Zeuxo, showing similarities to Z. (Parazeuxo) kurilensis and representing the first anatanaid to be recorded from the region, and one paratanaid of a new genus, Triparatanais, distinguished from other paratanaids in having only three longer articles in the antennule.

A new genus and species, Unguitarsonemus paradoxus n. gen., n. sp. and a new species, Pseudotarsonemoides peruviensis n. sp. (Acari: Trombidiformes: Tarsonemidae), are described based on phoretic females collected on bark beetles Phloeotribus pilula and Ph. biguttatus, respectively, from Peru. A key to species of the genus Pseudotarsonemoides is provided.

Namaquaropus niger gen nov. & sp.nov. is described from South Africa. In addition, two new species of the subgenus Jehania Distant of Isometopus Fieber (I. mirus sp. nov. and I. maculipennis sp. nov.), and Paloniella flavicolor sp. nov. are described. With these, the known species of Isometopinae in South Africa now number sixteen.

This paper deals with the systematics of all known Australian Mecoptera. Two new species are described: Austrobittocw anomalus (Austrobittacus is a new genus) and Harpobittacus phaeoscius; and three new subspecies: Harpobittacus australis rubripes, H. tillyardi albatus, and H. t. rubricatus.

Abstract. A very distinctive new deep-photic coccolithophore is described from the NE Indian Ocean. The new species is trimorphic with: 200–300 body coccoliths bearing low spines attached by narrow stems to a basal narrow-rimmed placolith structure; up to 18 circum-flagellar coccoliths with tall sail-like spines; and up to 22 coccoliths with moderately elevated spines occurring both around the circum-flagellar coccoliths and antapically. These features make the coccolithophore unique and require placement in a new species and genus. The basal structure, however, shows similarities to a recently recognized group of narrow-rimmed placoliths. Hence, the new coccolithophore provides some support for this grouping as a significant addition to our understanding of coccolithophore biodiversity, and potentially an explanation for a set of anomalous molecular genetic results. In addition the new taxon provides further evidence that the deep-photic coccolithophore community is more diverse than has been assumed.
