Food supply chain from an entrepreneur's perspective has many needs today. To cultivate food entrepreneurs addressing the growing global demand in food, there is an emerging trend in integrating vital players in food supply chain to form food clusters. Like most of start-up entrepreneurs in other industries, food entrepreneurs have their challenges of identifying market opportunities, building a trusted management team, and securing funding sources to run the businesses. They also need facilities to produce their foods, the facilities needed to be certified by local food authorities, securing product liability insurance, and marketing channels to distribute their food products. In this paper, we discussed how LSU Food Incubator is established and developed to address those challenges. Specifically, it is a “Flying High, Landing Soft” platform. We plan to empower the platform with mobile cloud learning practices and capabilities and extend this platform to emerging markets like Turkey.

Any business having experienced a product recall knows how costly this can be. Sometimes the main costs of the recall are concentrated around counteracting bad publicity, but if several or large numbers of batches are affected by the recall, the costs of the recall itself can mount up considerably. In many large companies the overall responsibility for quality assurance and product safety is placed in a different part of the organization from the one responsible for product liability insurance and recall insurance. As a consequence inside the organization there is not always a common understanding of what the insurance should cover and what the insurance actually does cover – or of whether and when the insurance company should become involved in the process.

The intra-uterine contraceptive device (IUCD) is used by about 6% of sexually active women in Britain. Although highly effective, the newest devices having pregnancy rates of less than 2 per 100 woman years,1 users remain anxious about the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and subsequent sterility. The reputation of the IUCD began to suffer following reports of serious complications associated with the use of the Dalkon shield in America in the 1970s. The tail of this device differed substantially from those of other IUCDs in common use; its multifilament thread enclosed in a plastic sheath had an alleged wick effect allowing bacteria to reach the endometrial cavity.2 This led to septic mid-trimester abortions when accidental pregnancy occurred, as well as several deaths from septicaemia. Subsequent litigation and difficulty obtaining product liability insurance led to the withdrawal of IUCDs from the American market for purely commercial reasons.3 So how safe are these devices and how can they best be used?
