In the May 1994 edition of Pediatrics, Jacobs et al reported the results of a generally well designed, randomized clinical trial in which they used either a placebo or one of several different homeopathic "medicines" for the treatment of young Nicaraguan children with acute diarrhea and mild or moderate dehydration. The results indicated that patients who received the homeopathic regimens had a significantly reduced subsequent duration of excretion of unformed stools, and (on one day only) a decreased number of unformed stools.
