To the Editor.— Hyperactivity is a reported side effect of phenobarbital usage,1 but we are unaware of any reports of language delay accompanying the hyperactivity. We are writing to draw your attention to an interesting series of cases. D.R. had been receiving therapeutic levels of phenobarbital for more than 2 years, because he had had two seizures before 1 year of age (the first with fever). Developmental testing after 1 year of age revealed mild mental retardation and delays in all areas.
