New inequalities relating the norm $n(X)$ and the numerical radius $w(X)$ of invertible bounded linear Hilbert space operators were announced by Hosseini and Omidvar [‘Some inequalities for the numerical radius for Hilbert space operators’, Bull. Aust. Math. Soc.94 (2016), 489–496]. For example, they asserted that $w(AB)\leq$$2w(A)w(B)$ for invertible bounded linear Hilbert space operators $A$ and $B$. We identify implicit hypotheses used in their discovery. The inequalities and their proofs can be made good by adding the extra hypotheses which take the form $n(X^{-1})=n(X)^{-1}$. We give counterexamples in the absence of such additional hypotheses. Finally, we show that these hypotheses yield even stronger conclusions, for example, $w(AB)=w(A)w(B)$.

AbstractWe present a survey of some recent results concerning joint numerical ranges of n-tuples of Hilbert space operators, accompanied with several new observations and remarks. Thereafter, numerical ranges techniques will be applied to various problems of operator theory. In particular, we discuss problems concerning orbits of operators, diagonals of operators and their tuples, and pinching problems. Lastly, motivated by known results on the numerical radius of a single operator, we examine whether, given bounded linear operators T1, . . ., Tn on a Hilbert space H, there exists a unit vector x ∈ H such that |〈Tjx, x〉| is “large” for all j = 1, . . . , n.

The aim of this article is to establish several estimates of the triangle inequality in a normed space over the field of real numbers. We obtain some improvements of the Cauchy–Schwarz inequality, which is improved by using the Tapia semi-inner-product. Finally, we obtain some new inequalities for the numerical radius and norm inequalities for Hilbert space operators.

<p>In this talk, to be given at a conference at Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli in September 2001, we shall describe the set of analytic bounded point evaluations for an arbitrary cyclic bounded linear operator T on a Hilbert space H and shall answer some questions due to L. Let A be an operator with the polar decomposition A = U|A|. The Aluthge transform of the operator A, denoted by ?, is defined as ? = |A|1/2U |A|1/2. In this paper, first we generalize the definition of Aluthge transformfor non-negative continuous functions f,g such that f(x)g(x) = x (x ? 0). Then, by using this definition, we get some numerical radius inequalities. Among other inequalities, it is shown that if A is bounded linear operator on a complex Hilbert space H, then h (w(A)) ? 1/4||h(g2 (|A|)) + h(f2(|A|)|| + 1/2h (w(? f,g)), where f,g are non-negative continuous functions such that f(x)g(x) = x (x ? 0), h is a non-negative and non-decreasing convex function on [0,?) and ? f,g = f (|A|)Ug(|A|).
