New imidazolium dicyanoargentate salts were synthesized by treatment of 2-chloro-1,3-diisopropyl-4,5-dimethylimidazolium chloride (2a) with an excess of silver cyanide in acetonitrile to afford 2-chloro-1,3-diisopropyl-4,5-dimethylimidazolium dicyanoargentate (3) and its conversion into the corresponding 2-cyano-1,3-diisopropyl-4,5-dimethylimidazolium dicyanoargentate (4) by reaction with an excess amount of potassium cyanide.
