The CTE was administered to three groups of nursing personnel before and one year after the unit system was introduced at a state mental hospital. The original scales were oriented towards patients and their pathologies or symptoms. A 1969 revision of the scales is oriented towards the environment and its characteristics on the original scales almost no statistically significant differences were obtained, suggesting that the immediate treatment environment of the patient was unaltered. The “new” scales showed that an appreciable number of statistically significant changes in the environment did take place.
