LVRT technology is currently a hot research of wind power, but the impact on the wind turbine of grid voltage swells and HVRT technology have not been given sufficient attention. This article analyzed the converter problems of full power wind turbine on grid voltage swells and used the control strategy of reactive power control, dynamic voltage and over-modulation to enhance the full power wind turbines HVRT capability.

Aiming at the problem appears in recent years, which is caused by the grid voltage swell, this paper analyzed the reasons for the voltage swell and its harm of the voltage swell to doubly-fed wind turbine. According to the derivation of doubly-fed wind turbine’s transient process when voltage swells, the paper proposed several technical solutions of high voltage ride-through (HVRT) to improve the HVRT capability of doubly-fed wind turbine.
