Female sexual function after abdominoperineal resection for squamous cell carcinoma of the anus and the specific influence of colpectomy and vertical rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap

The pectoralis major myocutaneous flap is a reliable regional flap commonly used for the reconstruction of head and neck defects. We report a case of a squamous cell carcinoma that occurred on the cutaneous paddle of a pectoralis flap in a patient with previous chest wall lesions. The need for a careful history of previous chest wall cutaneous lesions is stressed in patients who are to undergo this type of reconstruction.

We describe a case of postoperative galactorrhea following the use of a pedicled pectoralis major myocutaneous flap for reconstruction of a pharyngolaryngeal defect in a woman with squamous cell carcinoma. We believe this to be unique in the literature, and an important complication to be reported, due to the similarities in appearance of galactorrhoea and postoperative aerodigestive tract/cutaneous fistula.
