Nicergoline is a vasoactive compound with an α-blocking adrenolytic activity which blocks human platelet aggregation induced by the most agents in vitro. The drug strongly decreases malondialdehyde formation stimulated by thrombin or collagen but not exogenous arachidonic acid. In the same way, the drug inhibits production of thromboxane B2, 12-hydroxyheptadecatrienoic acid (HHT) and 12-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (HETE) induced by thrombin, but not decreases exogenous arachidonic acid utilization by platelet prostaglandin synthetase and lipoxygenase.
