Koenigia hedbergii, a new and distinct species collected from the Shennongjia National Nature Reserve in the Northwest of Hubei Province (central China) is described and illustrated. The new species can be easily distinguished from other Koenigia species by its leaves lanceolate or lanceolate-ovate each showing 6–11 pairs of lateral veins and with distinct undulate margins, by its ocreae glabrous but sparsely puberulent at the bases, and achenes sharply trigonous with three pronouncedly keeled edges. A morphological comparison among the new species and the related ones, K. nepalensis and K. pilosa, is presented. The Koenigia-type pollen grains of the the new species were also observed and described.

Geum sunhangii – first discovered in Shennongjia National Nature Reserve, Hubei Province, China – is described as a new species of Rosaceae. Compared to all known Chinese Geum species, the new species differs by possessing jointed styles, imbricate petals and a reniform radical leaf terminal leaflet. Most significantly, the jointed style is curved at an obtuse or a right angle. In addition, the inclusion of this species within the genus Geum was supported by phylogenetic analysis using the sequence data of a nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) and a chloroplast trnL–trnF intergenic spacer. The new species was found to be closely related to G. rivale and G. aleppicum.

A new freshwater goby, Rhinogobius houheensis, is described based on 40 specimens in a freshwater stream from the Houhe National Nature Reserve, Hubei Province, China. The new species can be distinguished from all its congeneric species by the following combination of characters: thee first dorsal fin rays VI, the second dorsal fin rays I/9-I/10; anal fin rays I/7-I/8; pectoral-fin rays 16–17; longitudinal scale series 37–40; transverse scales 12–14; predorsal scale series 0; and vertebrae counts 12+18=30. The first three spinous rays in the first dorsal fin are colored with two dark-blue stripes and one black spot in alive.

Aspidistra revoluta (Asparagaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from limestone areas in southern Chongqing Municipality, China. The new species can be distinguished from the other Aspidistra species by its unique umbrella-like pistil with large revolute stigma lobes that bent downwards and touch the base of the perigone. A detailed morphological comparison among A. revoluta, A. nanchuanensis and A. carnosa is provided. The pollen grains of A. revoluta are subspherical and inaperturate, with verrucous exine. The chromosome number is 2n = 38, and the karyotype is formulated as 2n = 22m + 6sm + 10st. The average length of chromosome complement is 4.50 μm, and the karyotype asymmetry indexes A1 and A2 are respectively 0.37±0.03 and 0.49±0.01.

Wrase and Schmidt (2006) established the genus Sinometrius Wrase & Schmidt, 2006 to include the new species S. turnai Wrase & Schmidt, 2006 from Hubei province, central China. They placed the new genus in the Paussine tribe Metriini, and compared it to the Nearctic genus Metrius Eschscholtz, 1829. Deuve (2020) described a second species S. jaroslavi Deuve, 2020 from Chongqing province.

This report provides a description of Primula sunhangii from the Shennongjia Forestry District, Hubei Province in Central China, which is categorized as a new species of the primrose family. Primula sunhangii is morphologically similar to P. involucrata Wall. ex Duby in terms of its simple umbel, efarinose, and prolonged bracts. However, P. sunhangii is distinguished by its glabrous sepal, short petiole (compare with blade) and cylindrical calyx and capsule. Molecular phylogenetic analysis based on nuclear and cpDNA genes demonstrates that P. sunhangii and P. involucrata are closely related. Combining genetic and morphological data, the recognition of P. sunhangii as a unique new species is supported.

Three new species of Alchemilla are described, two from the Northern England and a third from the highlands of Scotland. Alchemilla falsadenta and Alchemilla mebii (Rosaceae) are described from the Yorkshire Dales. Both belong to the Series Vulgares Buser, Subseries Subglabrae H. Lindberg, although the latter could conceivably be placed in Subseries Hirsutae H. Lindberg. Alchemilla neomanifesta of the Series Vulgares, Subseries Hirsutae is described from Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve.

Typhlodromus contains the most species in the subfamily Typhlodrominae and 85 species have been recorded in China. Two new species T. (Anthoseius) bawanglingensis sp. nov. and T. (Anthoseius) informibus sp. nov. were found by examining the specimens collected from Hainan Bawangling National Nature Reserve and Hainan Jianfengling National Nature Reserve in Hainan Islands. Herein, they are described and illustrated based on female specimens.

Trichosanthes sunhangii D.G.Zhang, Z.M.Li, Qun Liu & T.Deng, a new species of Cucurbitaceae, is described and illustrated. It was collected in Shennongjia Forestry District, Hubei province, east-central China. T. sunhangii is morphologically similar to T. kirilowii Maxim. and T. rosthornii Harms, but can be easily distinguished from them by its bracts, tendrils and fruits. Phylogenetic analyses based on three DNA barcode markers (ITS, matK and rpl20-rps12) indicated that two accessions of T. sunhangii were grouped together (PP=1.00, BP=100 and LP=100) in Sect. Foliobracteola.

A new species of the genus Neoperla (Plecoptera, Perlidae), N. yingshana Chen & Du sp. nov. from the Wujiashan National Forest Park, Hubei Province of central China is described, illustrated and compared with similar taxa. The new species is characterized by the aedeagal tube long with an upcurved, finger-like spinulose lobe subapically, and by the aedeagal sac plump, gradually tapering to a blunt tip with dense spinules on ventral surface and granules surrounding sac apex.
