Dendrochilum ignisiflorum is hereby described and illustrated as a new species of orchid endemic to Luzon Island, Philippines. The species resembles D. vanoverberghii by having petiolate leaves, channelled petioles, labellum of the same size, and the erect to suberect incurved column but distinct by the sub-globose or broadly ellipsoid pseudobulb, 3 distinct leaf veins, barely spreading flowers, lanceolate and revolute dorsal sepal, and the absence of callus in the labellum.

Magnolia napoensis, a new species from the Amazonian lowlands of Ecuador and Peru is described and illustrated. This species belongs to subsection Talauma; it is similar to M. rimachii in leaf shape but differs from the latter in being taller with a larger diameter and having fewer lateral leaf veins, more numerous hypsophylls, larger flowers, longer outer petals, more numerous stamens and fruits ovoid and ribbed vs. subglobose and smooth. The new species differs from M. neillii by its leaves with fewer lateral veins, glabrous petioles and terminal internodes, more numerous hypsophylls, fewer stamens and ovoid fruits of smaller size, with fewer carpels. Magnolia napoensis is assessed as endangered (EN B2ab(iii)) in accordance with the IUCN criteria.

In this work, we describe a new species, Ainsliaea daheishanensis Y.L.Peng, C.X.Yang & Y.Luo, based on morphological traits. The new species was discovered in the mountains of Yunnan, near the border between Myanmar and China. The new species differs from the phenotypically closely-related Ainsliaea foliosa Handel-Mazzetti in the morphology of the leaf veins and phyllaries, those having a protruding abaxial reticulate pattern in the lower and median part of stem with white hairs and narrow inner phyllaries. A key to the three closed Ainsliaea species occurring in China is provided.

Phyllagathis impressinervia (Melastomataceae, Sonerileae), a new species from northwestern Guangxi, China and previously misidentified as P. cavaleriei in Chinese herbaria, is illustrated and described. The new species closely resembles P. cavaleriei in leaf shape, inflorescence type, and morphology of stamens and capsule, but can be easily distinguished by the leaf veins strongly sunken adaxially, hypanthium pubescent with ca. 1 mm long, spreading glandular hairs, creamy white anthers, and conspicuous ovary crown at anthesis.

A new species of Magnolia from Sierra de Juárez, Oaxaca, Mexico, is described and illustrated. Magnolia yajlachhi belongs to sect. Talauma, subsect. Talauma, locally known as “yajlachhi” (flower of the heart, in Zapotec). It shares with M. lacandonica the subglobose mature fruit and the entirely white petals, but differs from the latter in having fewer carpels and stamens; more lateral leaf veins per side; and seeds orange vs. scarlet-red. It shares with M. zoquepopolucae the subglobose fruit but differs from the latter in having fewer carpels and stamens; petals entirely white vs. purplish in the upper portion (¾); more lateral leaf-veins per side; and seeds orange vs. scarlet-red. It shares with M. mexicana a similar number of carpels and stamens but it differs from the latter in having subglobose fruits to widely ovoid-depressed vs. widely ellipsoid; more leaf-veins per side; petals entirely white vs. adaxially purplish in the upper portion (¾); and seeds orange vs. scarlet-red. A key to Mexican species of sect. Talauma subsect. Talauma is provided. This species was assessed as Critically Endangered (CR). The species has a ceremonial and medicinal, conservation and nurse tree relevance in the Zapotecan culture.

Involucrella lithophila from the limestone area of Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated here. It is most similar to Hedyotis kurzii and Involucrella chereevensis in having tetragonal stems, slender pedicels and loculicidally dehiscent capsules, but it differs from the former by its 3–5 (–7)-lobed stipules, heterostylous and white flowers and depressed seeds, and from the latter by its 2–4 secondary leaf veins and heterostylous flowers. The molecular phylogenetic analysis revealed that this new species was embedded in the Involucrella clade and closely related to I. chereevensis. It is evaluated as Least Concern according to IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.

Styrax paulhousei, a new species of Styrax L. series Valvatae Perkins from northwestern Honduras, is described and illustrated. It is similar to S. ramirezii Greenm. but differs in having fewer secondary leaf veins and larger corollas. The species is endemic to the Sierra del Merendón in the Department of Cortés and is categorized as vulnerable as based on IUCN Red List criteria. The discovery of this species brings the number of Styrax species native in Honduras to six.
