Heat transfer enhancement method using fins is well known and widely used. However, it needs to consider the loss of structural strength on the heat transfer surface by attaching fins. Therefore, heat transfer enhancement method using porous material had been proposed as the alternative. This paper’s objective is to study the pressure drop and heat transfer enhancement in a horizontal circular pipe after insertion of high porosity material. This material was cut off in three blocks and inserted with interval in a horizontal pipe to suppress the pressure drop. We had conducted to study the influences of change with porosity and wire diameter on the heat removal and the pressure drop. Experimental results show that inserting the porous material with porosity of 0.997 into the horizontal smooth pipe with a constant heat flux can enhance the heat transfer by about 30%.
