<p>Eleven complexes and adduct have been synthesized and studied by infrared. The suggested structures are discrete with tetrahedral, trigonal bipyramidal, square planar or octahedral environments around Zn, Ni, Hg and Cu centres – the coordination number is eight in the yttrium compound and ten in the dysprosium one-. The maleate anion behaves as a bidentate, a monochelating, a bichelating or a tetradentate ligand while the formiate anion behaves as a monodentate ligand. For compounds containing a protonated amine or a methanol molecule, when hydrogen bonds are considered a supramolecular architecture may be obtained.</p>

Five new oxalato and hydrogenoxalato complexes with ZnBr2 have been synthesized and studied by infrared. Discrete structures have been suggested in the basis of spectroscopic data. The environments around the zinc centre being trigonal bipyramidal, tetrahedral, octahedral or monocapped octahedral. The anions behave as monochelating ligands. When the cations and OH group are involved in extra hydrogen bonds, a supramolecular architecture may be obtained.

Discrete, layered or infinite chain structures are suggested with an oxalate behaving as a monodentate, bidentate, monochelating or bichelating ligand, the environment around the tin centres being tetrahedral, cis trigonal bipyramidal or octahedral. In all the studied compounds, supramolecular architectures may be obtained when intermolecular hydrogen bonds are considered.

In the title Schiff base complex, [Cu(C19H18Cl2N2O2)], the CuIIion is coordinated in a distorted square-planar environment by two N atoms and two O atoms of the tetradentate ligand. The dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 36.86 (14)°. In the crystal, molecules are linked into inversion dimers by pairs of weak C—H...O hydrogen bonds. In addition, π–π [centroid–centroid distance = 3.7279 (16) Å] and weak C—H...π interactions are observed.

In the title solvate, [Cu4(μ2-Cl)6(μ4-O)(C4H9NO)4]·2CH3OH, each Cu2+ion in the tetranuclear complex has a trigonal–bipyramidal coordination arising from three bridging chloride ions in equatorial positions and the central μ4-O2−ion and morpholine N atom in axial positions. The morpholine rings adopt chair conformations, with the N—Cu bonds in equatorial orientations. In the crystal, the components are linked by N—H...O and O—H...O and O—H...Cl hydrogen bonds, which generate a three-dimensional network. One methanol molecule is disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.642 (9):0.358 (9) ratio.
