Combined Carotid Endarterectomy and off Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: A Case Report

A 64 years male presented as a case of triple vessel coronary artery disease with bilateral asymptomatic carotid lesion. He underwent combined right carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and off pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB) with excellent outcome. The beneficial effects of intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) in coronary artery bypass graft surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass have been reported. However, whether preoperative insertion of IABP in high-risk off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB) has any beneficial effects remains to be established. We report our experience of preoperative insertion of IABP in OPCAB.
