This article introduces the concept of geodesic mappings of manifolds with idempotent pseudo-connections. The basic equations of canonical geodesic mappings of manifolds with completely idempotent pseudo-connectivity and semi-Riemannian manifolds with a degenerate metric are obtained. It is proved that semi-Riemannian manifolds admitting concircular fields admit completely canonical geodesic mappings and form a closed class with respect to these mappings.

ABSTRACT Reconsideration of the question of the validity of the calculations of the secretion rates from the specificity activity of a urinary metabolite after the single injection of a radioactive hormone has led us to conclude that the basic equations used in a previous theoretical treatment are not generally applicable to the nonisotopic steady state if the radioactive steroid and hormone are introduced into the same compartment. If this is so, in a two compartmental model with metabolism occurring in both pools, it is now shown that the calculation (S = R — τ) is rigorously valid if certain precautions are taken. This is in contrast to the previous treatment which concluded (in certain special circumstances) that the calculation might not be correct. However, if the hormone is secreted in both compartments and the radioactive steroid is injected into only one, then the calculation (S = R — τ) may not be correct in certain circumstances as was previously concluded (Laumas et al. 1961).

We study homeomorphisms of Riemannian manifolds with unbounded characteristic such that the inverse mappings satisfy the Poletsky-type inequality. It is established that their families are equicontinuous if the function Q which is related to the Poletsky inequality and is responsible for a distortion of the modulus, is integrable in the given domain, here the original manifold is connected and the domain of definition and the range of values of mappings have compact closures.

This chapter examines polysynthetic word formation in Inuit (Eskimo-Aleut), using the presence and variable ordering of a closed class of adverbs within verbal complexes as a diagnostic device to evaluate the adequacy of different accounts of word formation. It is argued that a head movement account of Mirror Principle orders within Inuit words undergenerates with respect to the observed variation in adverb ordering, particularly if a fixed hierarchy of adverbial functional projections is assumed, as in Cinque (1999). Instead, it is shown that an analysis that employs a right-headed structure, XP-sized phasal words, and Ernst’s (2002) semantically based framework of adverb licensing better captures the observed variation.
