This paper proposed low cost instruments for wireless communication based on LabVIEW program. Conventional monitoring and controlling method using LabVIEW need several unique devices including data acquisition card (DAQ), RS232, wireless data acquisition (WDA), the serial and parallel interfaces which lead to expensive cost and complex system. This paper explains the new design of wireless interface devices which uses Wi-Fi USB, MCU board, and RS232 using LabVIEW to save cost. The objective is to develop low cost and easy tools for wireless monitor and interface. Five cases are considered including LED, traffic light, stepping motor, DC volt meter, and temperature data logger on the IEEE 802.11 standard. The experiment results show the developed programs which can remote instruments on a monitor accurately.

In order to overcome the disconnection and high cost and maintenance difficulties of the conventional data collection systems for structure monitoring of long span bridge, we developed a low-cost and effective data acquisition system composed of several wireless communication modules connected to vibrating wire type sensors. This system has the function to change conventional wire-based data collector into wireless one instantly. The prototype of wireless data acquisition system for vibrating sensors is described in this paper. Laboratory tests demonstrate that the wireless data acquisition system is of high accuracy and good stability. In addition, the application of this system to the strain monitoring of a large steel box arch shows the wireless data acquisition system with good performance improve the efficiency of data acquisition and reduces the cost of monitoring.

This paper analyzed the design and development of a 16F877A microcontroller-based wireless data acquisition system. Besides, it also discussed the possibility of different existing methodologies to be linked to field data acquisition from distribution automation systems. Various existing data transmission techniques were studied, especially for wireless systems such as satellite, radio, GSM and paging. The hardware and software implementations were included. The system was used for reading, storing and analyzing data which were obtained from DAS. The wireless communications were based on the GSM network. The laboratory results were compared with the simulation results to determine final conclusion.
