ABSTRACTThe hydrogen rich ternary hydride phases of RFe2Hx (R=Y Dy, Er) with x>4 have been investigated using 57Fe, 161Dy and 166Er Mössbauer spectroscopy and bulk magnetization. In all cases, the presence of hydrogen results in a dramatic reduction in the moment on Fe as well as the magnetic transition temperature. The data also imply a simultaneous weakening of the R-Fe magnetic exchange.
