Abstract We investigate existence, uniqueness and regularity for solutions of rough parabolic equations of the form $\partial _{t}u-A_{t}u-f=(\dot X_{t}(x) \cdot \nabla + \dot Y_{t}(x))u$∂tu−Atu−f=(Ẋt(x)⋅∇+Ẏt(x))u on $[0,T]\times \mathbb {R}^{d}.$[0,T]×ℝd. To do so, we introduce a concept of “differential rough driver”, which comes with a counterpart of the usual controlled paths spaces in rough paths theory, built on the Sobolev spaces Wk,p. We also define a natural notion of geometricity in this context, and show how it relates to a product formula for controlled paths. In the case of transport noise (i.e. when Y = 0), we use this framework to prove an Itô Formula (in the sense of a chain rule) for Nemytskii operations of the form u↦F(u), where F is C2 and vanishes at the origin. Our method is based on energy estimates, and a generalization of the Moser Iteration argument to prove boundedness of a dense class of solutions of parabolic problems as above. In particular, we avoid the use of flow transformations and work directly at the level of the original equation. We also show the corresponding chain rule for F(u) = |u|p with p ≥ 2, but also when Y ≠ 0 and p ≥ 4. As an application of these results, we prove existence and uniqueness of a suitable class of Lp-solutions of parabolic equations with multiplicative noise. Another related development is the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary problem on a smooth domain, for which a weak maximum principle is shown under appropriate assumptions on the coefficients.

We consider the renormalized square of the solution of the stochastic heat equation and obtain for this process a new dynamic involving the second quantization of an unbounded operator. This is achieved by a version of the Itô formula which we derive by a simple application of the Wick chain rule.

AbstractWe consider systems of parabolic equations coupled in zero and first order terms. We establish Lipschitz estimates in {L^{q}}-norms, {2\leq q\leq\infty}, for the source in terms of the solution in a subdomain. The main tool is a family of appropriate Carleman estimates with general weights, in Lebesgue spaces, for nonhomogeneous parabolic systems.

AbstractIn this paper, we study the behavior in time of the solutions for a class of parabolic problems including the p-Laplacian equation and the heat equation. Either the case of singular or degenerate equations is considered. The initial datum $$u_0$$ u 0 is a summable function and a reaction term f is present in the problem. We prove that, despite the lack of regularity of $$u_0$$ u 0 , immediate regularization of the solutions appears for data f sufficiently regular and we derive estimates that for zero data f become the known decay estimates for these kinds of problems. Besides, even if f is not regular, we show that it is possible to describe the behavior in time of a suitable class of solutions. Finally, we establish some uniqueness results for the solutions of these evolution problems.

We consider a general class of parabolic equations of the typewith Dirichlet boundary conditions and with a right-hand side belonging to L1 + Lp′ (W−1, p′). Using the framework of renormalized solutions we prove uniqueness results under appropriate growth conditions and Lipschitz-type conditions on a(u, ∇u), K(u) and H(∇u).

The classical Itô formula is generalized to some anticipating processes. The processes we consider are in a Sobolev space which is a subset of the space of square integrable functions over a white noise space. The proof of the result uses white noise techniques.

Spherical neodymium–iron–boron magnets are permanent magnets that can be assembled into a variety of structures owing to their high magnetic strength. A one-dimensional chain of these magnets responds to mechanical loadings in a manner reminiscent of an elastic rod. We investigate the macroscopic mechanical properties of assemblies of ferromagnetic spheres by considering chains, rings and chiral cylinders of magnets. Based on energy estimates and simple experiments, we introduce an effective magnetic bending stiffness for a chain of magnets and show that, used in conjunction with classic results for elastic rods, it provides excellent estimates for the buckling and vibration dynamics of magnetic chains. We then use this estimate to understand the dynamic self-assembly of a cylinder from an initially straight chain of magnets.
