The late Victor Neale has done a great service not only to the British Paediatric Association (B.P.A.) but to Pediatrics in general by his masterly 2nd volume of the history of the association. It covers the years 1952 to 1968; the fact that during this period the membership rose from less than 150 to nearly 500 reflects the advance of pediatrics during that time. Further, the importance of the B.P.A.'s influence, both scientifically and politically, is emphasized by the association's setting up of an academic board to organize the scientific side of the annual meetings, by its vigorous efforts to further pediatric research and training, by strengthening its contacts with other similar societies, and especially by the B.P.A.'s increasing influence on the British Ministry of Health which has tended increasingly to consult the association as well as having observers on its council.
