This chapter treats that part of the West Spitsbergen Orogen south of Isfjorden (Figs 10.1, 10.2, 10.3). It follows the same pattern as the last in treating the stratigraphy of the area, then the structure. Southwestern differs from central western Spitsbergen in being of greater length, more stratigraphic variety but less pronounced Cenozoic deformation. This appears to decrease in intensity southwards. There is, moreover, a conspicuous contrast south of Isfjorden from a fold belt with many thrusts to.
