Antisymmetric tensor gauge fields ϕab(η) are formulated on the surface of a sphere S4(η2 = a2) embedded in five dimensions. Such compact manifolds occur in the dimensional reduction of higher dimensional spaces that naturally occur in string theories. The free field model is equivalent to a scalar model on this sphere. Interactions with gauge fields are discussed. It is feasable to formulate models for interactions with U(1) gauge fields Aa(η) that are akin to those of Freedman and Townsend in flat space. In addition, it proves possible to have a novel interaction of ϕab with Aa and a spinor field Ψ(η) on S4 with both Abelian and non-Abelian gauge invariance. In these models, Aa plays the role of a Stueckelberg field.PACS No.: 11.30.Ly

A new covariant quantization of chiral bosons in the chiral Schwinger model with faddeevian regularization is carried out from Batalin-Fradkin (BF) algorithm. In order to turn the second class chiral constraint into first class constraints, infinitely many BF fields are first introduced. When combined with Batalin-Fradkin-Vilkovisky (BFV) formalism, two kinds of BRST-invariant actions have been derived. The first contains the Wess-Zumino action induced from the usual path-integral approach. But the second includes Wotzasek’s Wess-Zumino action coupled to the gauge fields.

This paper is devoted to the quantization of the second-ilk superparticle using the Batalin-Vilkovisky method. We show the full structure of the master action. By imposing gauge conditions on the gauge fields rather than on coordinates we find a gauge-fixed quantum action which is free. The structure of the BRST charge is exhibited, and the BRST cohomology yields the same physical spectrum as the light-cone quantization of the usual superparticle.
