The present paper analyses the Tailor impact problems when a cylindrical projectile imposes impacts on the rigid target vertically. A hypothesis is proposed about the law governing the velocity variation during the impacting process, with a theoretical framework developed for the analysis based the deformed projectile length. With the theoretical framework, a simulated analysis is conducted of the Tailor impacting process by turning to the reproducing kernel particle method. Then analysis is conducted of the experiment results, together mesh-free simulation, indicating that the results obtained from the theoretical deduction, from the value simulation and from the experiments are mutually compatible.
