Over the past years there has been an increasing interest in recycling construction materials, particularly hot-mix asphalt (HMA) and portland cement concrete pavements (PCCP). To this end the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) participated in Demonstration Project 47, Recycling Portland Cement Concrete Pavement, by recycling a moderately D-cracked concrete pavement and monitoring the performance over a 10-year period. The recycled concrete pavement (RCP) aggregate was evaluated in four test sections consisting of two control sections, one test section of portland cement-treated base (CTB) with RCP aggregate, and one test section using RCP aggregate in the PCCP and CTB. An HMA shoulder using RCP as coarse aggregate was also constructed. The test sections were monitored over a 10-year period for performance including faulting, roughness, load transfer, and friction measurements. Faulting, roughness, performance level, and joint distress measurements from KDOT's 1995 pavement condition survey were used to compare the performance of the recycled sections with PCCP of similar age and traffic in the same area of the state. All test sections performed well, with the CTB and PCCP sections with RCP aggregates showing slightly more distress.

The stress concentration will appear in cement concrete around joint dowel set in contraction joint of cement concrete pavement with repeated loads. And concrete around joint dowel will damage gradually. In this paper, the stress of concrete around joint dowel and deflection of concrete slab are analyzed when joint dowel loosing. It is indicated that the shear stress is key to damage of concrete around joint dowel. when the loosing width reaches certain extent. With loosing width increasing, load transfer capacity will decrease gradually. And it is shown that the load transfer capability will lower rapidly when the loosing width comes in 4cm.

The airport cement concrete pavement seam is very important to the bearing capacity and Flatness. Considering the importance of seams, a detailed three-dimensional finite element model was used to investigate the state of seams. According the calculation method of load transfer coefficient, the coefficient was obtained. Comparing the different coefficient, the best position of dowel steels, the best diameter of dowel steels, the best buried depth of dowel steels and the best joint width of dowel steels all can be gained best joint width of dowel steels all can be gained.

In order to reduce the temperature and drying shrinkage cracking in cement concrete pavement, setting up cracks which becomes the weakest part of the cement concrete pavement. Load transfer behavior of cracking has a great influence on road performance and used lifetime in cement concrete pavement. The improvement of load transfer behavior of cracking is conducive to maintain effective load transfer between the pavement and to enhanced bearing capacity of pavement structure, also to reduce the damage of the structure, which is an important technical approach to extend the used lifetime of pavement. This paper describes the mechanism of load transfer and research status of crack, and points out the problems existing in the crack load transfer ability of research and development trend.

Through the pullout test on dowel bar of different surface treatment modes and position deviation, the paper draws the conclusion that the plastic spraying treatment in different surface treatment modes can maximum meet the setting requirements of dowel bar, and the angular deviation of the dowel bar is the main reason for the cracking within the 50 centimeters of both sides of cement concrete pavement joint; Through the bending fatigue test, the paper evaluates the attenuation law of joint load transfer capacity under different horizontal installation error conditions(0°, 5°, 10° and 15°), and find that with the increase of dowel bar deviation angle, the initial joint load transfer capacity presents a rapid downward trend, and the performance of whole working period become worse and worse, when the angular deviation of dowel bar in the horizontal plane is not more than 5°, juncture load transfer capacity can still remain the medium level, which will not have too much influence on the working performance of dowel bar. Finally, the paper presents the looseness of dowel bar after 800,000 times of bending fatigue, and puts forward the control measures to avoid position deviation of dowel bar.

Special load has produced serious damage to the concrete pavement because of the great gross weight and heavy axle load, but the present specification has not mentioned this kind of load. On this occasion, Several conditions of critical load are identified through ANSYS finite element model analysis and the formula through statistical regression analysis to the bottom maximum tension stress is drawn up. Which can not only guide the concrete pavement design under the special load but also the result may be referred by the other kinds of engineering.
