Two lanthanide–organic frameworks [Ln(HPIDC)(m-bdc)·1.5H2O]n (Ln = Eu 1 or Tb 2; H3PIDC = 2-(4-pyridyl)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid; m-H2bdc = 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid) were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions.

A series of isostructural fluorescent Ln-MOF [Ln(BPDC-xN)] (Ln = Eu/Tb, x = 0, 1, 2] probes was prepared using a nitrogen modification strategy to achieve the improved selective detection of NADPH.

We report the exploration of fluorescent nanoscale metal–organic frameworks (nMOF-253s) for highly selective and sensitive detection of Fe2+ ions in aqueous solution. Moreover, nMOF-253 of 50 nm is successfully applied in fluorescent bioimaging and intracellular Fe2+ sensing in HeLa cells.
