We briefly summarize up-to-date results on the determination of the parameters of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix |Vcb| and |Vub|, which play an important role in the unitarity triangle and in testing the Standard Model, and recent results on semileptonic B meson decays involving a τ lepton.

Measurements of D0 meson strong-phase parameters in quantum-correlated [Formula: see text] decays by the CLEO collaboration are presented. These measurements play an important role in the determination of the unitarity triangle angle γ/ϕ3 from B-meson decays. Measurements of the strong-phase parameters for D0 → K0π+π-, D0 → K0 K+ K-, D0 → K- π+ π0, and D0 → K- π+ π+ π- decays are described along with their impact on the determination of γ/ϕ3.

We review the effective Lagrangian of the Higgs penguin in the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension (MSSM). As a master application of the Higgs penguin, we discuss in some detail the B-meson decays into a lepton–antilepton pair. Furthermore, we explain how this can probe the Higgs sector of the MSSM provided that some of these decays are seen at Tevatron Run II and B-factories. Finally, we present a complete list of observables where the Higgs penguin could be strongly involved.

Using the low energy effective Hamiltonian with the generalized factorization, we calculate the new physics contributions to B→π+π-, Kπ and Kη′ in the topcolor-assisted-technicolor (TC2) model, and compare the results with the available data. By using [Formula: see text] preferred by the CLEO data of B→π+π-decay, we find that the new physics enhancements to B→ Kη′ decays are significant in size, ~ 50% with respect to the standard model predictions, insensitive to the variations of input parameters and hence provide a simple and plausible new physics interpretation for the observed unexpectedly large B→ Kη′ decay rates.

After a short introduction on CP asymmetries in K and B meson decays, I discuss a few recent results related to CP violation, mainly from the BABAR experiment: CPT tests in [Formula: see text] mixing, search for CP violation in [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] decays, and measurements of the unitarity-triangle angle α in B →ππ and B →ρρ decays. I conclude with the result of a CKM-matrix fit to all relevant observations.

The B-meson system provides many strategies to perform stringent tests of the Standard-Model description of CP-violation. In this brief review, we discuss implications of the currently available B-factory data on the angles α, β and γ of the unitarity triangle, emphasize the importance of Bsstudies at hadronic B experiments, and discuss new, theoretically clean strategies to determine γ.
