The sulfurylation of estrone-6,7-3H, estradiol-17β-6,7-3H, and dehydroisoandrosterone-4-14C by laying hen liver, oviduct, and vaginal preparations was investigated. Purification and product identification included ether and ethyl acetate extraction, paper chromatography, and isotope dilution, before and after hydrolysis with a sulfatase preparation. The esterifying enzymes were found in the 105 000 × g supernatants of the three tissues. The liver preparation was many times more active in steroid sulfate synthesis than the corresponding oviduct or vaginal fractions. Sulfurylation of dehydroisoandrosterone displayed the same cofactor, pH, and temperature requirements as did that of estrone and estradiol-17β. The degree of dehydroisoandrosterone sulfate synthesis was considerably lower than that of the estrogens, however. It is suggested that the laying hen possesses an enzyme system which is more efficient for the sulfurylation of estrogens than of other steroids such as dehydroisoandrosterone.

Ecological and floristic characteristics of the new subassociation of the Balkan beech and Greek maple plant community with hornbeam (Aceri heldreichii-Fagetum subass. carpinetosum betuli) were studied. This subassociation is recorded and described on Mt. Rudnik, where it occurs at the elevations 950- 1,050 m, on moderate to steep inclinations (10-30?), and cold aspects: northern, northwestern and northeastern. Bedrock consists of sandstones and mudstones. The biological spectrum, ecological spectra and spectrum of distribution types of this community were calculated. The community has phanerophyte-hemicryptophyte character, it is mesophilous regarding soil moisture requirements and temperature requirements, it is neutrophilous to soil acidity, according to light requirements it is tolerant to semi-tolerant. The most numerous group of distribution types is Central European, which confirms the mesophilous character of this community.

Authors studied the effect of different temperatures prior to fruit body appearance on the yield of 3 Pleurotus strains P70, HK35 and 357. After 17 days of incubation at 25 °C and 28 °C the substrate blocks were kept for 7 days at 13, 16, 19, 22 and 25 °C. Then temperature was reduces to 16 °C during harvest time. Tests showed difference of some degrees in the optimal prefruiting temperature requirements of the strains which could result in even in 10-15% surplus yield. It is advisable to use technologies specially adapted to strains.
