The branching ratios for leaving the CO + ion in a particular vibrational level of the ground X 2 Ʃ + state have been determined as functions of photon energy through the n = 3 autoionizing Rydberg state converging to the B 2 Ʃ + state of CO + ; there are substantial differences between theoretical and experimental Franck-Condon factors when ‘on’ resonance. The branching ratios have been converted into absolute partial cross sections by normalizing to existing data obtained by using line sources. The asymmetry parameter β has also been determined for each vibrational level in this spectral range. Considerable variations in both have been observed in the region of this resonance.
