A new species of Nectophrynoides from the Ukaguru Mountains, Eastern Arc Mountains Tanzania, is described. The new species is diagnosed by the presence of large prominent spines with keratinized tips, positioned on the dorsum, head and limbs. In addition, the combination of the following characters presence of large tympanum and annulum, foot longer than tibia, the lack of parotoid glands and advertisement call features, allow this species to be distinguished from all other species in the genus. The new species adds to our understanding of the relatively undersampled and poorly understood, amphibian fauna of the Ukaguru Mountains.

Acridocarpus taitensis (Malpighiaceae), a new species collected from Taita Hills (Ngangao Forest fragment), Kenya, is described and illustrated. The new entity is similar to A. congestus, but is distinguished by its longer glandular leaves, with markedly impressed lateral veins on the adaxial leaf surfaces, smaller bracts, and fruits with the apex of the wings obtuse in shape. This species has previously been recorded as Acridocarpus sp. in the book Kenya, Trees & Shrubs and as Acridocarpus taxon A in the book Kenya, Trees, Shrubs & Lianas.

The genus Dendrobia n. gen. is erected to include D. amaniensis n. sp. from the East Usambara Mountains as type species. A second species in this genus, D. octopuncata n. sp., is described from the Udzungwa Mountains of Tanzania. Dendrobia n. gen. is a canopy dweller found only high up on trees in closed submontane and montane forest. The peak frequency of its song is lower than in all other known African Agraeciini, correlating with the large resonant areas in the tegmina. Two new Afroanthracites species, A. ngologolo n. sp. and A. nguru n. sp. are described from the Eastern Arc Mountains in Tanzania. These species are dwellers of understory vegetation in closed forest in the Udzungwa and Nguru Mountains respectively.

Chaleponcus altirungwensis sp. nov. is described from Mount Rungwe, Tanzania. The new species belongs to the Chaleponcus dabagaensis group which is otherwise restricted to the Udzungwa Mountains and joins a growing set of taxa indicating close biogeographical connections between Mount Rungwe and the Eastern Arc Mountains in a strict sense.

Phrynobatrachus discogularis sp. nov. (Anura, Phrynobatrachidae) is described from the Eastern Arc Mountains in Tanzania. It occupies upland grasslands and while it morphologically most resembles West and Central African P. gutturosus (Chabanaud, 1921), P. rungwensis (Loveridge, 1932), and P. anotis Schmidt and Inger, 1959, preliminary analysis of mitochondrial 16S rRNA indicates that the new species differs from all other species with published sequence data by a minimum distance of 4.1% and has affinities with P. rungwensis, P. uzungwensis Grandison and Howell, 1983 and P. keniensis Barbour and Loveridge, 1928—all diminutive upland eastern African taxa. The shape and colour of the male’s external gular apparatus distinguish this species from all other described Phrynobatrachus species. Although geographically either sympatric or closely allopatric with P. uzungwensis, the lack of overlapping morphological characters indicates the two forms are distinct species. The new taxon is compared with other species from the region.

A new species of Probreviceps is described from the Ukaguru Mountains in Tanzania, and is distinguished morphologically by its pointed and ridged snout. The species also differs from other members of the genus in its call and mitochondrial DNA. An updated phylogeny of all known Tanzanian Probreviceps species and subspecies is presented, based on 12S and 16S rRNA mitochondrial sequences. An updated key of the species of Probreviceps is also given.
