Room-temperature accelerated aging in the solid state has been applied for quantitative azobenzene C–H bond activation by Pd(OAc)2. Water-soluble dicyclopalladated methyl orange is a selective chromogenic biothiol sensor at physiologically-relevant micromolar concentrations in aqueous media.

The synthesis of various tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran derivatives has been carried out by means of an uncatalyzed, three-component, one-pot clean condensation of aromatic aldehydes, reactive methylene compounds, and dimidone in aqueous medium. Simple workup, and mild and neutral conditions that give quantitative yields of products in pure form, are the attractive features of this method.

The reaction of substituted cinnamonitriles and 4-amino-2,6-dihydroxypyrimidine or 2,4-diamino-6-hydroxypyrimidine in water in the presence of triethylbenzylammonium chloride (TEBA) as catalyst affords a clean synthesis of pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives.
