AbstractThis study inspects the light and radial-velocity curves of the eclipsing binary AV Del. In comparison with other studies already done, the study shows that the absolute elements, fundamental orbital and physical parameters of the system can be determined using the Wilson-Devinney code. Using these parameters, the configuration of the system is presented. Then, an accretion disc model for the system is introduced by using the shellspec code. The results indicate that AV Del is a semi-detached system in which an optically thick accretion disc is surrounding the primary star. The outer radius of the disc is 8.0 R⊙, corresponding to a distance of 1.1 R⊙ from the surface of the secondary. Also, the temperature of the disc is calculated to be T = 5700 K.

Complete UBV light-curves of RR-Lep and RX-Hya have been obtained during 1983-87 seasons. Preliminary elements were computed using modified Wellmann’s method. With these parameters as inputs Wilson-Devinney program was executed for Blue and Yellow passbands simultaneously in detached and semi-detached modes for both the systems. The semidetached mode fitted better than the other solution for both the systems. For RR-Lep, the absolute dimensions were computed by assuming the primary to be a slightly evolved main sequence star. For RX-Hya, the absolute dimensions were computed using Struve’s spectroscopic data. The following table gives all the elements for both the systems. The secondaries of both the systems are overluminous for their masses suggesting that they have lost considerable mass.

The eclipsing binary U Cephei has proven to be of great interest in the study of stellar evolution in close binary systems. Batten (1974), Hall and Walter (1974), Rhombs and Fix (1976), Markworth (1977), and Olson (1978), among others, have recently reported on their intensive ground based studies of U Cephei. Kondo, McCluskey and Wu (1978) have investigated the ultraviolet light curves of U Cephei obtained with Astronomical Netherlands Satellite (ANS). Kondo, McCluskey and Stencel (1979) have discussed the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) spectra of U Cephei. This paper discusses results incorporating additional IUE high resolution spectra of U Cephei obtained in both far-ultraviolet and mid-ultraviolet spectral regions.
