The aim of the present paper is to study the dynamics of a class of orbitally continuous non-linear mappings defined on the set of real numbers and to apply the results on dynamics of functions to obtain tests of divisibility. We show that this class of mappings contains chaotic mappings. We also draw Julia sets of certain iterations related to multiple lowering mappings and employ the variations in the complexity of Julia sets to illustrate the results on the quotient and remainder. The notion of orbital continuity was introduced by Lj. B. Ciric and is an important tool in establishing existence of fixed points.

Abstract New families of uniformities are introduced on UC(X,Y) , the class of uniformly continuous mappings between X and Y, where (X,{\mathcal{U}}) and (Y,{\mathcal{V}}) are uniform spaces. Admissibility and splittingness are introduced and investigated for such uniformities. Net theory is developed to provide characterizations of admissibility and splittingness of these spaces. It is shown that the point-entourage uniform space is splitting while the entourage-entourage uniform space is admissible.

In this discussion paper we argue that category theory may play a useful role in formulating, and perhaps proving, results in ergodic theory, topogical dynamics and open systems theory (control theory). As examples, we show how to characterize Kolmogorov–Sinai, Shannon entropy and topological entropy as the unique functors to the nonnegative reals satisfying some natural conditions. We also provide a purely categorical proof of the existence of the maximal equicontinuous factor in topological dynamics. We then show how to define open systems (that can interact with their environment), interconnect them, and define control problems for them in a unified way.

We consider the problem of a double fixed point of pairs of continuous mappings defined on a convex closed bounded subset of a Banach space. It is shown that if one of the mappings is completely continuous and the other is continuous, then the property of the existence of fixed points is stable under contracting perturbations of the mappings. We obtain estimates for the distance from a given pair of points to double fixed points of perturbed mappings. We consider the problem of a fixed point of a completely continuous mapping on a convex closed bounded subset of a Banach space. It is shown that the property of the existence of a fixed point of a completely continuous map is stable under contracting perturbations. Estimates of the distance from a given point to a fixed point are obtained. As an application of the obtained results, the solvability of a difference equation of a special type is proved.

This paper contributes new numerical invariants to the topology of a certain class of polyhedra. These invariants, together with the Betti numbers and coefficients of torsion, characterize the homotopy type of one of these polyhedra. They are also applied to the classification of continuous mappings of an ( n + 2)-dimensional polyhedron into an ( n + 1)-sphere ( n > 2).
