The B-meson decay constant f B is calculated using the static approximation on the lattice. Our result for f B shows a large dependence on the size of smearing of operators used to create the B-meson. This result implies that one cannot extract the reliable physical value of f B from the lattice simulation with the static approximation.

Particle physicist Joaquim Matias analyzes recent results from the Large Hadron Collider—in particular, rare decays of B-mesons that suggest the violation of leptonic universality—for evidence of New Physics.
