Abstract Quality-of-life research leans toward measuring placed-based attributes of a locale while less attention has been given to understanding what people mean by quality of life. This paper reiterates that quality-of-life research is intrinsically about juxtaposing life conditions and life evaluation, thereby unveiling critical issues immanent in a society (Castells, 1983). This paper draws on interviews conducted in public housing neighbourhoods in Singapore to examine the colloquial meanings of quality of life and the normative connotations that people attach to it. It unveils the efforts to reconcile fast and slow and discusses the different temporalities underpinning life domains and how spatial planning could engage with the issue of time to improve quality of life. The Singapore case is insightful to contemplate the challenges of reconciling the increasing needs of going slower amid an accelerated pace of life, which is a contradictory yet pervasive characteristic of life in contemporary capitalist societies.

The conclusion highlights Gloria Richardson’s increasing public recognition for her human rights activism in Cambridge, Maryland, during the 1960s and her place in civil rights and Black Power histories. Also discussed are her views on some current social issues, including the Cambridge city government’s privatization of the public housing units she and other activists fought to get built. Richardson sees this as an example of government’s abrogation of its responsibility to serve and protect residents and politicians’ use of their power to undermine communities’ quality of life. She also shares her concerns about President Donald J. Trump. Although he presents himself as an authoritarian politician, his supporters either cannot or will not acknowledge this because they believe in the myth of American exceptionalism. Richardson argues that today’s activists must use creative tactics—including the strategic use of the vote—to resist the countless ways governments at all levels try to limit and restrict people’s freedoms and liberties.

Abstract Objective: To analyze Brazilian scientific production on housing for autonomous elderly persons. Method: A descriptive, analytical integrative review type study was carried out. The following guiding question was defined: what is the Brazilian scientific production relating to housing for autonomous elderly persons in indexed on-line periodicals from 2000 to 2015? Results: Thirty-three articles were identified in total, of which only 13 met the inclusion criterion. Using the Content Analysis technique, the following categories were formed: Modalities of housing for the elderly; Public housing policies for the elderly and Housing and quality of life. Conclusion: Most of the studies discussed types of housing for the elderly, falling into the category "Modalities of housing for the elderly", and identifying a tendency towards one-person dwellings. In relation to the category "Public housing policies for the elderly", the articles reflected on the rights and the guarantees of the elderly in relation to a suitable home. The "Housing and quality of life" category aimed to compare the quality of life of elderly people living alone or with a partner, as well as their perception of exclusive condominium developments for this population. There is a need for research on the issue in question, since there is an increase in the number of elderly people without housing, making it necessary for the state to meet this demand.

Objective: The aims and objective of this study to observe the improvement in Nocturnal Asthma symptoms and Quality of Life (QoL) with administration of once daily sustained release theophylline preparation. Background: Nocturnal symptoms are a common part of the asthma. Nocturnal asthma is defined by a drop in forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) of at least 15% between bedtime and awakening in patients with clinical and physiologic evidence of asthma, which may include improvement in QoL.Methodology: The patient with Chronic Persistent Asthma, both sex, age >18 to 50 years of age and preferably patients with nocturnal exacerbations were included in the study. All patients were diagnosed on the basis of clinical history, physical examination, chest X-ray and pulmonary function tests, in accordance with the clinical criteria for the diagnosis by the GINA. The recruitment period was between March 2017 and August 2017 Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, Dhaka. Results: It was observed that 65(92.85%) was found exacerbation free night and 5(7.15%) patients were found exacerbation with sustained release Theophylline. There are significantly improved qualities of life between 1st follow up to 2nd follow up, 3rd follow up and 4th follow up p<0.001 which was statistically significant. Spirometry test was gradually improved between 1st visit of FEV1 to 2nd, 3rd and 4th visit of FEV1, (p<0.001) that was statistically significant. Conclusion: Most of the patients were found exacerbation free night. There are significantly improved quality of life between 1st follow up to 2nd follow up, 3rd follow up and 4th follow up in Spirometry test. The value of FEV1 was gradually improve in the lst visit, 2nd, 3rd and 4th visit with sustained release Theophylline.J Shaheed Suhrawardy Med Coll, December 2017, Vol.9(2); 74-77
