In order to accurately identify the change of shearer cutting load, a novel approach was proposed through integration of improved particle swarm optimization and wavelet neural network. An improved updating strategy for inertia weight was presented to avoid falling into the local optimum. Moreover, immune mechanism was applied in the proposed approach to enhance the population diversity and improve the quality of solution, and the flowchart of the proposed approach was designed. Furthermore, a simulation example was carried out and comparison results indicated that the proposed approach was feasible, efficient, and outperforming others. Finally, an industrial application example of coal mining face was demonstrated to specify the effect of the proposed system.

A novel image segmentation algorithm based on fuzzy C-means (FCM) clustering and improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed. The algorithm takes global search results of improved PSO as the initialized values of the FCM, effectively avoiding easily trapping into local optimum of the traditional FCM and the premature convergence of PSO. Meanwhile, the algorithm takes the clustering centers as the reference to search scope of improved PSO algorithm for global searching that are obtained through hard C-means (HCM) algorithm for improving the velocity of the algorithm. The experimental results show the proposed algorithm can converge more quickly and segment the image more effectively than the traditional FCM algorithm.

A fuzzy clustering algorithm based on improved particle swarm optimization was proposed in this paper. First reduce dimension of solution space, separate it into smaller solution space. In separated solution space, use of improved particle swarm optimization algorithm to search the sub-optimal solution as a chromosome of whole particle,use improved PSO to search global optimal solution. The particle solve the problem that swarm algorithm easy to fall into local optimal solution in high dimensional space, and the problem that the fuzzy clustering algorithm is sensitive to initial value problems. Simulation results show the effectiveness of this algorithm.
