On the basic of deeply analyzing the characteristic of circulation economy power system with high penetration of wind power, and researching the model and transient characteristics of DFIG, the problem on transient stability of circulation economy power grid was given through simulating and analyzing the huolinhe circulation economy demonstration project on wind power consumed in the local in the paper. At last, an optimal control strategy of wind turbine based on circulation economy power system with high penetration of wind power was proposed.

Over the last decade, power generation from renewable energy sources such as wind, hydro and solar energies have substantially increased globally and in South Africa. Of all the renewable energy sources, wind energy appears to be the most promising, considering design and costs. However, due to the intermittent nature of wind, the increased integration of wind energy into existing power systems raises several control challenges related to load frequency control (LFC) and tie-line power system stability. The stability of modern power systems, incorporating wind energy generations, will be significantly enhanced with the development of LFC strategies based on modern control theory, which is the focus of this research. This thesis presents the design, modelling and analysis, of two LFC control strategies for interconnected power systems, having wind power integrations. The first design is an optimal control strategy, based on error minimization through full state vector feedback, for a two-area interconnected power system consisting of hydro-thermal generations. The second design is a model predictive control (MPC) strategy, based output vector feedback of system state parameters, for a two-area interconnected power system consisting of thermal generations in each area. Both designs include the active power support from doubly fed induction generator based wind turbines (DFIG) in conjunction with the combined effort of a thyristor control phase shifter (TCPS) and super conducting magnetic energy storage unit (SMES). Both control strategies were simulated in MATLAB Simulink and positive results were obtained. The results show that the optimal control strategy is enhanced with power integrations using DFIG based wind turbines combined with the TCPS-SMES units and the MPC strategy is very robust and provides better dynamic performances even with parameter variations and generation rate restrictions.

Because of wind sources’ volatility and intermittent news, wind power has made a more and more heavy burden on the power system. This paper analyzes in detail the traditional control method, parallel control strategy and serial control strategy of the wind storage system, and combines the advantages of the two to propose an optimal control strategy. A comprehensive performance evaluation method for the primary frequency regulation of the ESS participating in the power grid is proposed based on the power system operation requirements. In the example, the frequency modulation performance of the optimal control strategy is verified by the evaluation method described in this paper in the Chinese frequency adjustment market.

Abstract Lithium battery energy storage system (ESS) has fast response speed, but it is in service for a long time. Therefore, in the research of secondary frequency regulation, it is necessary to establish a battery model that can reflect the short-term polarization and estimate SOC accurately under long-term service. Therefore, we propose a method of variable parameter loss model of lithium battery suitable for secondary frequency modulation of power system and optimize its control strategy based on the relationship between the independent variable SOC and the internal electrical parameters of the battery. Firstly, we discretize the state equation of single cell to obtain the PNGV model with variable parameters. Then the SOC estimation method is improved by using the modified extended Kalman filter method. Finally, we did an analysis about the economy of the ESS participating in secondary frequency regulation by using the loss model, and the optimal control strategy is designed. The HPPC experiment of the ESS unit is designed by Simulink, and the accuracy of the simulation and experimental curves has been analyzed. Finally, the economic differences between the traditional control strategy and the optimal control strategy considering loss are compared. The results show that the error of the variable parameter model in the fitting experiment is no more than 0.41%, and the accuracy of SOC estimation is 12.96% higher than that of the traditional estimation. The economy of the optimized control strategy is 15.38% higher than that of the traditional control strategy.
