AbstractSpecific routes of migration in the vicinity of a pond in southern England were apparent for both adult and newly-metamorphosed Triturus vulgaris and for adult and juvenile Bufo bufo; no specific routes were apparent for adult and juvenile T, cristatus. For adult T. vulgaris, the major route of immigration was similar in two successive years. Adults and newly-metamorphosed juveniles of this species shared the same major route of emigration. The data suggest that adults 'home' towards the pond from nearby woodland in the spring; the emigration route observed may reflect the previous spatial distribution of the newts within the pond.
