A perturbation procedure is employed to derive expressions for the effective surface impedance and propagation constant for a circular rod with an uneven surface. The Leontovich or impedance boundary conditions are assumed to apply in a local sense. It is shown that the roughness leads to attenuation of the guided wave on the structure.
