The genus Chlorophytum Ker Gawler (1808: 1071) is one of the major genera of family Asparagaceae, with about 190 species (Govaerts et al. 2015). It is distributed in the old world tropics, especially in Africa, Asia and Australia (Poulsen & Nordal 2005, Mabberley 2005). According to Malpure & Yadav (2009) the genus is represented by 17 species in India, of which 15 is occur in the Western Ghats. Recently, four more species of Chlorophytum have been described from Western Ghats of India: Chlorophytum belgaumense Chandore et al. (2012: 527), C. sharmae Adsul et al. (2014: 9503), C. palghatense K.M.P. Kumar & Adsul in Kumar et al. (2014: 282) and C. clivorum Mathew & George (2015: 379).

New species in the genus Capillipedium Stapf is described and illustrated from Amarkantak hills of Madhya Pradesh, India. New species is similar to Capillipedium assimile (Steud.) A.Camus and C. nagense Bor but mainly diverges by having 4–6 cm panicle, 2–2.5 cm racemes, about 11–13 pairs of sessile and pedicelled spikelets in each raceme; joints and pedicels without translucent groove, 2–2.5 mm sessile spikelets and 3–3.2 mm pedicelled spikelets. A taxonomic key for genus Capillipedium in India is given to facilitate easy identification of species.

Capillipedium mistryi, a new species has been described from Bori Wildlife Sanctuary of Hoshangabad district, Madhya Pradesh, central India. It shares the close morphological affinities with C. spicigerum, which is distributed from China to Australia. The IUCN conservation status, ecology, distribution and phenology along with its morphological affinities have been discussed. A key for the identification of Capillipedium species is provided.
