Abstract. In the context of climate change and increasing urbanization, floods are considerably affecting urban areas. The concept of urban resilience may be an interesting means of responding to urban flood issues. The objective of this research is to propose a spatial decision support tool based on geovisualization techniques and a resilience assessment method. The goal is to localize the level of resilience modeled in different territories. The methodology proposed consists in integrating three resilience indicators applied to a case study in Avignon (Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur Region, France) and the use of geovisualization techniques: using GIS for data processing and analysis, visualization, mapping and model processing. The methodology integrates decision-making by identifying characteristics capable of improving urban resilience and facilitating its understanding using a visual tool. The results demonstrate the usefulness of modeling resilience using geovisualization techniques to identify the potential for local resilience, integrate local stakeholders into a process of clarifying the concept through the contribution of visualization, and consider easier access to this concept based on data analysis, processing and visualization through the design of maps.

IntroductionThe Antidepressant Advisor Study is a feasibility trial of a computerised decision-support tool which uses an algorithm to provide antidepressant treatment guidance for general practitioners (GPs) in the UK primary care service. The tool is the first in the UK to implement national guidelines on antidepressant treatment guidance into a computerised decision-support tool.Methods and analysisThe study is a parallel group, cluster-randomised controlled feasibility trial where participants are blind to treatment allocation. GPs were assigned to two treatment arms: (1) treatment-as-usual (TAU) and (2) computerised decision-support tool to assist with antidepressant choices. The study will assess recruitment and lost to follow-up rates, GP satisfaction with the tool and impact on health service use. A meaningful long-term roll-out unit cost will be calculated for the tool, and service use data will be collected at baseline and follow-up to inform a full economic evaluation of a future trial.Ethics and disseminationThe study has received National Health Service ethical approval from the London—Camberwell St Giles Research Ethics Committee (ref: 17/LO/2074). The trial was pre-registered in the Clinical Trials.gov registry. The results of the study will be published in a pre-publication archive within 1 year of completion of the last follow-up assessment.Trial registration numberNCT03628027.

Argumentation Maps support participants in geographically referenced debates as they occur, for example, as part of urban planning processes. In a quasi-naturalistic case study, 11 student participants discussed planning issues on the University of Toronto downtown campus. The analysis of this case study focuses on general usability aspects of an Argumentation Map prototype, such as cost of entry, efficiency, interactivity, and connectivity. By applying usability analysis methods from the field of human-computer interaction, we evaluate the learnability, memorability, and user satisfaction with this tool’s functionality. Our findings indicate that the participants were generally satisfied, but we include specific suggestions for improving the functionality of Argumentation Maps, e.g., with respect to map navigation, display of discussion contributions, and online status of participants. On a more general level, this case study contributes to the methods spectrum of research into participatory spatial decision support systems as an example of user testing in a realistic decision-making context.
