Nowadays, improving the efficiency of power plants by utilizing secondary energy resources is gaining more attention in the energy sector. In this paper, the combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT-420T) was considered, where exhaust heat from the main and auxiliary equipment is utilized, and sent to a water supply system through a closed-circuit heat exchanger, as a result, the heat transferred (Q = 6.4 MW) is rejected into the environment through a cooling tower. Moreover, an effective modelling method for utilizing heat in a closed cycle, using a steam compressing heat pump unit (HPU) is proposed. In addition, a calculation of the effectiveness of utilizing secondary energy resources depending on the number of HPU stages.

In addition, the calculation of the effectiveness of the use of secondary energy resources depending on the number of stages of HPU was carried out. Several options of the model were discussed in this work, such as, two-, three-, and four-stage HPU and the coefficient of performance was calculated. Moreover, the work of these compressors for each option of the model was discussed in this work. Finally, the economic benefits of using of a multi-stage HPU instead of a traditional one-stage HPU during the annual operation of the CCGT-420T was discussed.

The foreground task of the development of inland water transport in the Russian Federation is increasing security, environmental protection and power efficiency of shipping operations. The article provides an overview of methods to improve the efficiency of marine power plants. The sources of secondary heat are considered and it is found that the most promising heat recovery sources for river vessels are the exhaust gases of diesel engines and cooling water of the main engines and diesel generators. The analysis shows that the secondary energy resources on ships, including modern ones, are practically not used or are used insufficiently and, in addition, the environment is being damaged. The reasons for the insufficient use of secondary energy resources on ships have been found, among them the lack of automated control systems for integrated heat recovery systems, which leads to a decrease of its economic efficiency. The integrated heat recovery systems are regarded by the operatives with distrust due to the increasing number of the repaired systems and bad quality of tap water. Deep heat recovery systems are good for sea-going ships, but are of little use in the river transport because of weaker secondary heat flows and poor fuel saving at the relatively high fuel cost. Today the important problem is to develop principles and algorithms of functioning of automated system of control over integrated heat recovery systems.

The dependence of mankind on energy resources only increases with the development of scientific and technological progress. It is clear that the supply of natural energy resources will run out soon. The solution is using new energy generation technologies based on renewable and secondary sources. Due to the presence in Ukraine of operating combined heat and power plants, there is the possibility of producing thermal energy using the secondary heat by absorption heat pumps. At the same time, the thermal energy of flue gases and steam from steam turbines does not heat the atmosphere, but are involved in the generation of thermal energy for heating networks of settlements. Due to the ability of the absorbent solution to absorb and condense water vapor under the influence of low-potential and high-potential heat carriers, it is possible to significantly reduce the consumption of traditional energy resources and increase the overall efficiency of the combined heat and power plants. World experience shows that the use of secondary energy resources can significantly improve the country's energy balance. And the main problem is the availability of these resources. In today's changing climate, the use of renewable energy sources requires additional expences and it is appropriate to pay attention to use of present secondary energy resources, which are not used now. There are a lot of such resources available in heat generating facilities. This is especially noticeable in large cities with central heating networks. Therefore, increasing the efficiency of their work makes it possible to significantly improve the energy balance of the whole country and reduce tariffs for thermal energy for industry and individual consumers, which, in turn, will improve the living standards of citizens.

The paper discusses the concept of developing schemes for the utilization of low potential secondary energy resources waste heat in heat transformers (HT). There ara several examples of using HT in non-ferrous metallurgy plants in Russia and Kazakhstan: the production of nickel, zinc and ferroalloys. In the case of nickel production, two schemes are proposed for consideration: for summer and winter modes. The main object of study is a nickel production scheme using a lithium bromide absorption chiller (AbCh) in the summer. The nickel production process needs cold. In the proposed scheme, the main source of utilized low-grade waste heat for AbCh is recycled water. The basic parameters were calculated under various extreme conditions, the energy effect of the circuit modernization was estimated, and equipment was selected. Another example of the HT use is the use of a heat pump unit (HPU) in the production of zinc and ferroalloys. HPU is designed to heat feed water before chemical water treatment and at the same time to “cool down” the circulating water, which is then used for electrolysis, replacing purchased artesian water.
