The increasing penetration of distributed generators may harm power system and its control and operations. The microgrid offers a better solution for the issues in grid operation. Undergraduate electrical engineering and postgraduate power system and power electronics students need to understand the working of microgrid with renewable energy resources along with the optimization and scheduling of power quality custom power devices. To cater better understanding of the microgrid with renewable resources, wind, solar, distributed generators, distributed energy storage devices, DSTATCOM, and plug-in electric vehicle charging load are included in this work presented. In this paper, multiobjective optimization for the operation of microgrid to account for uncertainties in a stochastic energy resources management system is considered. Nonlinear constraint optimization to reduce the running cost, losses, and voltage variations is focused for the optimization. Loss sensitivity analysis is used to find the location wind, solar, distributed generators, distributed energy storage devices, and DSTATCOM. Firefly algorithm is used to optimize the size of distributed generators and DSTATCOM. Optimization reduced the loss, power taken from the grid and improves the voltages in the system. This paper is self-explanatory to the undergraduate and postgraduate students to understand the power flow analysis of microgrid with hybrid renewable energies and optimization technique.

At a recent time voltage distortion is one of the foremost power quality problem at all level of power system. Power electronic controllers like various filtering technology have been used for more desirable solution of power quality problems to users. But still there is a voltage and frequency deviations problem in the power system leads to reduce in quality of power and thereby reduce the life of consumer equipment. To overcome this drawback and protects the sensitive loads from power quality problems, custom power devices are used. Among various custom power devices, Dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is an ultimate solution to address the voltage correlated power quality problems. DVR is a usual three phase inverter which transforms DC to AC and vice-versa using DC link capacitor. Whenever utility is distorted by voltage correlated faults, DVR is dynamic and it shields the load from utility distortions. Whenever distortion arises, the control strategy for the DVR plays significant role to make the DVR in active condition. Among all control strategies, Synchronous reference frame theory is simple and suitable for DVR. The DVR topology is verified and validated using SIMULINK/MATLAB.

Power quality becomes one of the significant contemplations in the power system. It has become significant particularly with the presentation of advanced devices. These high-level advanced devices are sensitive to the nature of the power supply. The power quality refers to the voltage, current, and frequency at the evaluated value. If any variation occurred in these quantities the standard rating is considered as the power quality problem. The power quality issues like loss of sine, voltage sag, voltage swell, short interruption, long interruption, flicker, and harmonics. To overcome these power quality issues, we like to utilize custom power devices on the distribution side. Among various custom power devices, Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator is liked to use for expanding the power quality, on account of their basic power supply at the circulation power system which can’t be interfered with development and less complexity. This paper presents the near research of single-phase with and without D-STATCOM by utilizing MATLAB Simulink programming.
